The funding opportunities available are designed to support small registered charities in creating homes that meet specific eligibility criteria. There are two main funding programmes: Best Practice Grants and the Main Grants and Loans Programme.

The Best Practice Grants are ideal for charities in the early stages of a housing project. These grants, which can be up to £6,000, cover professional fees for environmental assessments or feasibility studies. These grants help ensure that projects are developed with high standards in mind. Charities receiving these grants are expected to hire suitable professionals for the work and provide a report upon completion. Successful applicants may also apply for additional funding through the Main Grants and Loans Programme.

The Main Grants and Loans Programme is intended for projects that are more advanced in their development. To apply, charities must first submit an expression of interest. If successful, they will be invited to complete a more detailed second-stage application. This programme offers awards of up to £50,000, which may be a combination of grants and loans. Grants are capped at £25,000, and loans over £20,000 require security. Charities should have solid plans, including feasibility studies, a robust budget, and necessary planning permissions before applying.

Applications for both programmes are reviewed at the Council of Management Meetings, held five times a year. Charities interested in applying should carefully review the guidance documents and adhere to the specified deadlines for applications in 2024.
